Working It

I am working in a new position at work…aka promotion. After I applied for the supervisory spot on our team, I started to get flooded with ideas for improvement…and more fun for our team. We have an awesome make-up of skills and personalities, and we’re really fortunate that our personalities click. It’s better than just being cordial and professional because it makes for a great atmosphere.

I interviewed, which went perfectly. A few days later, I was offered and accepted the position. It was then that the buyer’s remorse hit. “Supervisor remorse”…I guess you could say. When I told Bryce, he was so excited for me, but I just was stuck in a funk. I kept asking myself, “What have I gotten myself into?” The team is in turmoil because of the undone projects left by the last person. The stress is very high at this time. And, finally, the new salary was very disappointing. Not much of a raise.

BUT, the position is a really good growing opportunity for me. Plus my team completely supports me. After my night of regret, I got to work the next morning and had a fantastic day. There is so much to do, and my days just fly by. The most fun part so far for me is the rewards I can offer my team: movie tickets, bonus merit pay, lunch, time off, and the like. They don’t expect that stuff at all because our last boss rarely gave it out…except a few lunches. So today I get to give out two movie tickets to each team member. I also wrote each one a personal thank you.

Wacky Zacky

Today after a high stress day at work, I drove down to South Jordan to pick up my nephew Zack. He is precious. Nine...and full of energy. Zack and I went to McDonalds...upon his request. He got a Spiderwick toy in his Happy Meal and told me the entire movie in great detail. I didn't realize the stuff that comes in a Happy Meal so I way over ordered. We had so much food. But Zack pounded it. I was surprised because this kid is a stick, and I've never seen him eat so much.

So then we got home and played X-Box. I'm terrible. Bryce and Zack killed me...quite literally. Then we went to play a game of pool. Zack and I teamed up against Bryce, but he still beat us. We need to switch the sink and reshoot rule. Bryce just gets too many. Very fun still.

Zack and I stopped by a party and had dinner while we were there...or so I thought. When we got home, he said, "What's for dinner?" I've honestly never seen him eat so much. I'm impressed. Bryce, Zack, and I went in the hot tub for a 1/2 hour before coming home to watch the Jazz game. Go Utah!

Valentine's Day

For the love...of Bryce!

So this year, Valentine's Day was such a delight. Bryce said he had to study late that night...which is very common. I mean my love lives at school. I've even deemed a set of desks up there "our kitchen table."

I figured V-Day isn't the best day to go out anyway...you know, too busy, crowded. So I just had a friend over so that we could work on her wedding stuff. All the sudden, she got a call and said she had to go home. (She knew Bryce was up to something...but she played it all very well.) Then Bryce called me and said he'd locked his keys in the car. He asked if I could come up to the school to unlock his Honda. Of course, I grabbed my stuff and went out the door.

When I got to where I'd parked my car, it was gone! I panicked for a second, but then I saw a set of flashing lights. It was my car with the flashers on! It all clicked right then...Bryce was up to something. I looked all over for him. I figured he had to be close. But then, as I got in my car, there was something on the dash...a GPS. He'd installed a GPS. I was so excited. I called him right away. And then I turned off the car. I couldn't wait to find him and give him a big hug and kiss.

I called and he said, "Are you following the directions?"

Wait a minute! Oh! The GPS...I needed to follow it, but OOPS, I'd turned the car off. Luckily, the GPS picks right back up when you turn the car back on. I was so excited. Bryce was being so secretive. I found out later that he was watching me from behind a big mound of snow. I followed all the twists and turns on the directions. It was so clear and the mapping was fantastically done.

I thought I was headed to Union Station...where Bryce LOVES the cobb salad, but the directions had me go right past it. I ended up at Javier's...one of my favorites and a Javier location that we seldom go to. (There are two closer Javier's, but that one, the original, is the best.)

Bryce was inside with dinner ordered and the whole series of Seinfeld episodes. A LOVEly night!

Starting this blog

Okay, I've finally started a blog. My hand got really tired when I was writing in my journal today, and I decided that, what the heck, it's time I got this baby online.

So thank you my Candace. You are an inspiration. I can trace so many extraordinary parts of my life back to you: fun in college, Sifl and Olly, books, little chickens, my faith, my husband!, and this blog.

More to come! If you have a blog too, let me know.
